Consultations

The first question many people have asked us about our consultation services usually is — “How can we do a consultation with you when I am in another state and you are in Michigan?” So — let us explain how a consultation with us works!

We designed our consultation specifically for those who cannot actually meet with us one-on-one at our Michigan office — so that people anywhere can access our knowledge base for their particular child/student with handwriting challenges. The process for a consultation with us is as follows:

Step One: Complete the Consultation Request Form included in our resource guide packet and mail it to our address on this website, along with copies of any relevant school and/or medical reports such as IEP's, 504 Plans, school psychological reports, occupational therapy reports, neuropsychological reports, other standardized test reports, etc. We will also ask you to send us varied student handwriting samples, including at least 5 varied written language samples and at least 5 varied math samples. Lastly, we ask that you mail us a check for $95.00 made payable to Handwriting Problem Solutions, LLC. All reports that are sent to us remain strictly confidential.

Step Two: Once we have received and reviewed the above information, we will email you to set up a date and time for a conference call with you to ask any questions that we have and to give you a chance to ask us any questions that you may have. During this call, we may ask you for additional reports and/or to speak with personnel at your child's school to make sure that we have all the information that we need to create our Consultation Report. We may have more than one conference call with you as we prepare our report and you may call or email us anytime if you have additional information that you would like us to consider.

Step Three: Based on all the information we have acquired from you, we will create our Consultation Report, which will include our specific “handwriting solutions” for the designated student. Our reports are typically 6-9 pages long and can be taken to a child's school and used as a part of both 504 Plan and IEP meetings as an “outside evaluation” in order to get appropriate accommodations in place for the student with handwriting challenges. You must first purchase our guide in order to do an individual consultation with us as we use the guide as the “backbone” of the consultation. When we recommend equipment and/or software for a student in our Consultation Report, we will refer you to our guide for more specific information as well as the pricing and ordering information. Our implementation strategies are also included in our guide — which, in our experience, really are the determining factors for the success or failure of the use of assistive technology to complete written schoolwork.

Once you have completed a consultation with us, we continue to be available anytime by phone/email to address your on-going concerns at no extra charge. For an additional fee, we are available to travel to meetings regarding the contents of our reports within approximately a 120 mile radius of our Michigan office.

We hope this explains our consultation services and how they work. If you have further questions about an individual consultation with us, please email us or give us a call anytime. We will be happy to address your questions and concerns.
